Robotic process automation has become a focus point in the global automation landscape. During 2018, RPA was the fastest-growing enterprise software segment internationally, according to research conducted by Gartner; with total RPA market revenue tipped to reach $1.3 billion in 2019.
This stellar performance is rooted in the many business benefits that RPA offers. However, as companies progress further along their RPA paths, many have come to realise that RPA robots – in their pure, unassisted form – can only work with data that is structured.
Conventional approaches to developing digital forms and process applications for business may give you the custom functionality and features you need, but these methods can also be slow and expensive. Low-code development is a much faster, smarter approach – and one that offers significant ROI.
The financial services industry has been using automation technologies for some time now, to remain efficient, profitable and relevant in a fast-evolving industry. Recently, however, there’s been a shift in focus from automating manual workloads to making entire processes smarter.
Velocity IT awarded ‘Most Innovative Use of the K2 Platform 2018’ by low-code software vendor, K2.
K2 hold an annual event to bring together K2 technology partners and their clients to celebrate excellence in the design and implementation of K2 low-code solutions.
The 2018 high-octane event at Mercedes-Benz World Weybridge, took place on Tuesday 30th October and attended by some recognisable brands; Shoosmiths, MOD, British Red Cross, Channel 4 and Transport for London to name a few, The awards also recognised excellence in three other categories; Best Business Benefits, Best Implementation and Best Technical Solution, all using the K2 platform.
Arno Van Rooyen, CEO Velocity IT Limited said “It honours us to accept this award in collaboration with Wales & West Housing. The project shows the tangible benefits of automating a business-critical process and how the pace in delivery and capabilities presented by the K2 platform can deliver such great results for process improvement – I’m proud of the Velocity IT team that contributed to winning this award”.
The Award-Winning K2 Project
WWHA own and manage a portfolio of over 11,500 homes throughout Wales. As part of their responsibilities to maintain the properties, their team of field-based engineers conduct Gas and Electrical safety inspections and surveys. These inspections, processed electronically and then updated on the back-office system to create a certificate – a process which required a high level of resource to keep up with demand.
A Collaborative Approach
Working in collaboration with WWHA, Velocity IT developed a digital solution to enable the field-based engineering team to generate gas and electricity compliancy certificates on a tablet device, following an inspection. The K2 build presented a solution that worked regardless of internet connectivity and enabled offline data entry and retrospective synchronisation of data with back-office systems.
The Innovative Result
Data from the completed forms is synchronised with the back-office system and further integrated into the Microsoft Dynamics platform. Certificates are automatically produced using the remote-captured data, removing any need for manual data entry or re-keying, both of which presented a time-constraint and elongated the process in the old process.
WWHA said “the process is now working in real-time and the time saved to produce the certificate has been noticeable, in particular the offline capability. The removal of the manual process has enabled both our field and office-based teams to be more productive.”
